Ever heard of Richard Avedon? He has quickly become my favorite photographer. One of the things he is well known for are his emotive portraits. He would shoot his subjects in black and white against a white background from the shoulders up. During the shoot he would engage his subjects in certain conversations, all the while capturing their expressions in relation to certain topics. If you have never seen his work, I highly recommend checking it out.

So I guess you could say he has inspired me. My new project is based around the same concept, emotive portraits, only I plan to add a few more elements. I plan to shoot in color, against a red background, using different angles and lighting. Also, in addition to engaging my subjects in conversation, I also plan to use music as a way of capturing certain emotions.

If nothing else...this project is going to be insanely fun. As someone who takes pride in having an array of friends with all sorts of personalities, I can't wait to see what kind of pictures I'm going to end up with.
